The University of Tampa Alumni Awards are the highest honors presented by the UT Alumni Association on an annual basis. Selected through a highly competitive process, each recipient has made a lasting impact on society and on UT through outstanding professional, philanthropic or volunteer accomplishments.
2017 Alumni Award Honorees
The Alumni Association is proud to announce the 2017 Alumni Award Honorees. These individuals are recognized for their outstanding achievements in their professional fields and for their dedicated service to the University.
The 2017 awards will be presented at either the May or December UT Commencement. This year's recipients are:
2017 Alumni Achievement Awards
Missy Hurley MacFarlane '04 – December Commencement
B2 co-founder and principal Missy MacFarlane has built a reputation for innovation and results, building and executing communications programs that focus on achieving her clients’ goals.
Accredited in public relations, MacFarlane has experience in a wide variety of industries, and has garnered results for Sunstar Paramedics, SPCA Tampa Bay, St. Petersburg Free Clinic, Fisher Phillips LLP, Marlow’s Tavern, Tampa Bay Businesses for Culture and the Arts, historic Ybor City and other clients. With an interest in economic development, she has worked closely with the City of St. Petersburg and the design teams for the new St. Petersburg Pier and the Pier Approach.
MacFarlane served as president of the Public Relations Society of America Tampa Bay Chapter in 2011, after many years serving in volunteer roles. She now serves as co-chair of the chapter’s Agency Leaders committee, and participates in the Counselors Academy section of PRSA on a national level. She’s also active in the Circle of Red, a women’s education initiative of the American Heart Association in Tampa Bay.
B2 is also great partner to UT by regularly providing internship opportunities and real world experiences for undergraduate communications majors.
Past involvements have included three years as a board member of American Institute of Architects (AIA) Tampa Bay, and volunteer roles with FemFessionals Tampa Bay, Gracepoint Ambassadors, Tampa Bay History Center, University of Tampa’s Board of Counselors and Florida Suncoast Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
She has received a number of significant industry awards, including an Award of Distinction in the FPRA Tampa Bay Image Awards and PRSA Tampa Bay’s Excellence in Community Relations Award. In 2015, her PR efforts for Sunstar Paramedics’ “Stay Alert, Stay Alive” public safety campaign were recognized by the American Ambulance Association’s annual AMBY Awards.
In addition, her PR efforts on behalf of Bubba Gump Shrimp Company and Sunscreen Film Festival were recognized by the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International distinguished Adrian Awards.
MacFarlane was recognized in the Tampa Bay Business Journal’s 2011 Up & Comers awards.
Alan Randolph ’90 – May Commencement
Alan Randolph is a 1990 graduate of The University of Tampa where he earned a Bachelor of Science in finance.
Randolph is currently the Florida State President at Bank of the Ozarks where he oversees all deposit and lending operations for the 18 offices in the Tampa Bay market and 44 offices statewide, including the New York City office and Association Services. Randolph previously held positions at C1 Bank as the senior vice president/Miami market leader and then became executive vice president/senior lender with C1 Bank prior to the Bank of the Ozarks’ purchase of C1 Bank in July 2016. He has over 27 years of banking experience, having held leadership roles at Mellon United National Bank and SunTrust Bank.
As a highly engaged member of The University of Tampa community, Randolph volunteers his time and expertise with multiple areas of campus. He is a member of the UT Board of Fellows and the Sykes College of Business Advisory Board, in addition to working with students in the John P. Lowth Entrepreneurship Center.
Randolph is a member of the Board of Directors for the Bass Museum of Art where he serves as treasurer, is a board member for the Humane Society of Miami-Dade where he chairs the annual “Brunch for the Animals” fundraiser, and is an active board member and past chairman of the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce.
2017 Young Alumnus Award
Tammy Charles ’12 MBA ’14 – May Commencement
Tammy Charles graduated from The University of Tampa with a Bachelor of Science in management in 2012 (magna cum laude), a Master of Business Administration in 2014 and a Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership in 2016.
Charles is currently the senior manager of corporate relations at Metropolitan Ministries. Prior to this role, she served Metropolitan Ministries as the manager of community donations. In addition, Charles founded a consulting start-up in 2016, TMC Consulting, where she hopes to utilize her strategic gifts and passion for local community and international work in Haiti to empower and equip social entrepreneurs and grass roots community leaders locally and internationally to expand their mission and enhance their operations.
As a highly engaged member of the community, Charles is an active leader with multiple organizations. She is the Protégé Mentorship Program liaison of the Tampa Chamber’s Women of Influence Committee, the chair of the Emerging Leaders of Tampa Bay’s Community Outreach Committee, currently the vice chair of the board of the YWCA Tampa Bay and is a 2016 Fellow with the New Leaders Council.
Charles has received numerous awards and accolades including the 2014 President Bill Clinton’s Commitment to Action Award for her work with her startup, Ambrosia Global, LLC; the 2016 Tampa Bay Business Journal’s Up and Comer Award for the Under 30 Category; and she was a finalist for the Tampa Chamber’s Deanne Dewey Roberts Emerging Leader Award in 2016.
