Competitive applicants will...
Direct patient care experience is not required for application, but the program gives a preference for those applicants with medium or high classification of patient care experience and a separate preference for those with more than 500 hours of direct patient care experience of any classification. The faculty used the following criteria to classify the level of patient care experience.
- Hands-on care
- Period of training required for patient care
- License required for patient care
- Exposure to different patient types
- Independence in providing patient care
If your direct patient care experience is omitted from the list below, you may use the PA program petition form
to have your direct patient care experience categorized by the program for admissions purposes. You MAY NOT
petition to have the listed direct patient care roles to be elevated in classification (e.g., medical interpreter to be upgraded from minimal to moderate). The program decision may not be appealed.
