In 2018, U.S. News & World Report ranked: 1) UT in the top tier in the category Best Regional Universities (South); and 2) the Sykes College of Business as a "Best Undergraduate Business School." UT was named in three web-exclusive lists for regional universities, including: 1) Best Colleges for Veterans and 3) Best Value Schools.

TransferHonorRoll_2017For the second year in a row, The University of Tampa was named to Phi Theta Kappa's 2018 Transfer Honor Roll, which identifies the top four-year colleges and universities that create dynamic pathways to support community college transfer students.

BloombergThe University of Tampa’s Sykes College of Business was named in 2017 for the first time as a best graduate business school by Bloomberg Businessweek in its annual ranking of 85 full-time U.S. MBA programs.

Ranked 78th, the Sykes College of Business did particularly well in surveys of alumni and current students. Only two other Florida business schools — the Hough Graduate School of Business at the University of Florida (48) and the University of Miami School of Business Administration (58) — were included in the ranking.

For the 12th year in a row, UT's Sykes College of Business has been named by The Princeton Review as an outstanding business school — and one of the 267 best business schools in the world.


UT’s MFA in Creative Writing program was noted by Publisher’s Weekly in Spring 2015 as one of 14 MFA Programs to Watch.” The magazine noted that UT’s program’s low-residency structure “offers the best of workshop and individual-mentorship approaches.”

UT is one of 39 universities in the nation that is lauded for its creative writing program in Creative Colleges: A Guide for Student Actors, Artists, Dancers, Musicians, and Writers (2013).


UT’s Sykes College of Business was ranked 47th in the category of “Excellent Business Schools” in the U.S. in the Eduniversal Worldwide Business Schools Ranking 2011.

At the Redefining Investment Strategy Education (RISE) eighth annual Global Student Investment Forum, UT students who manage a $150,000 university portfolio won first place in the 2007 student managed portfolio competition. The forum included students from 257 colleges and universities from 69 countries.


For the past four years, UT undergraduate nursing students received an impressive 100 percent pass rate on the NCLEX-RN on the first try. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing administers this exam to test the nursing competence of candidates for licensure as registered nurses.

RegisteredNursing.orgIn 2017, UT’s nursing program was ranked first out of 136 state approved and accredited programs by The ranking was based on first time test taker pass rates of the NCLEX-RN exam.

UT’s Sykes College of Business is a member of the University Partnership Program with the National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA). The partnership provides select academic institutions an expanded pool of qualified Hispanic applicants for graduate business programs. NSHMBA is widely known as the “Premier Hispanic Organization.”

The ranking set the Sykes College of Business immediately above the business school at the University of Notre Dame and below the University of California-Berkely’s business school. UT was also ranked higher than the business schools at Harvard University, Duke University and Ohio State University.
GCECThe Lowth Entrepreneurship Center at The University of Tampa has been awarded the Entrepreneurship Teaching and Pedagogical Innovation Award by the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers (GCEC). The GCEC awards are judged by peer entrepreneurship directors to recognize the very best in entrepreneurship education.
USASBEThe Lowth Entrepreneurship Center in The University of Tampa’s Sykes College of Business was awarded the National Model Program Award for undergraduate entrepreneurship programs by the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship® (USASBE) in 2016.

Prez Honor Roll

Since 2007, UT has regularly been named to the President’s Service Honor Roll, sponsored by The Corporation for National and Community Service, for its work on service-learning programs and volunteer opportunities for students, faculty and staff.

The Minaret, UT’s student newspaper, was named best college newspaper in the Florida College Press Association’s (FCPA) 2008 Better Newspaper Contest. The paper received the same award in 2007. The newspaper’s online edition was named the country’s best small school website by the Associated Collegiate Press in 2010 and was recently named a finalist in the 2013 ACP Online Pacemaker contest. In the 2013 FCPA awards, The Minaret was named the third best weekly student newspaper and the best college magazine in Florida. The Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) recognized The Minaret in its 2012 Mark of Excellence Awards winners from Region 3 with a second place in the category Best All-Around Non-Daily Student Newspaper (Medium).

Her Campus, an online magazine for college women, has included The University of Tampa in its 2011 Her Campus College Rankings. On a list of 10 top destination schools, UT came in at number 4 for being one of the best colleges for education and leisure.


UT’s intramural sports program was honored by in 2015 as one of the Top 50 Best Intramural Sports Programs in the nation. The ranking was based on factors such as efficient team organization, number/frequency of programs, quality of facilities and leadership.
